Aegina, the closest island to Athens – just 40’ on the hydrofoil ferry, swims in ancient history, traditional culture, breathtaking beauty, and of course… its brilliant crystal clear waters. According to myths, Aegina got its name from a nymph – with whom Zeus fell in love, and took with him to this amazing island.
The old stone cottage, which we lovingly call our ‘’secret garden’’, is situated on a hill 5’ drive from the main town/port of Aegina, and several sandy beaches. It is surrounded by half an acre of stone paved courtyards interweaved in Greek gardens, planted with a variety of mature and lush almond, olive, pomegranate, fig and cypress trees. As a special treat, the swimming pool terrace provides a stunning view of the sunset, the sea, and other surrounding islands.
The newly renovated & refurbished traditional stone cottage, boasts one large bedroom with a double bed on a raised platform, and two single beds. The open-plan living room, which also has a double sofa-bed, extends into a lovely dining area and fully-equipped kitchen. The cottage retains all of its traditional character and charm, while also providing all modern amenities from WiFi & smart TV, to A/C & a Nespresso machine. Recently we added a second cottage which we call the Artist's Studio in the same style and quality, just 10 meters from the main cottage. It is completely autonomous with its own kitchen and bathroom, and open-plan layout.
BOTH cottages are rented together, as one property, ensuring absolute privacy.
Despite the wonderful stone cottage interior, you will probably be spending most of your time enjoying the outdoors, sipping freshly-brewed coffee on the stone patio in the mornings amongst the trees, contemplating which beach to visit. If you are feeling especially lazy, you can jump in the pool for a nice splash. Even better, will be the evenings, while you sample Greek delicacies at the end of the day, discussing your stroll through a charming village or inspiring ancient temple, whilst gazing at the setting sun.
Of course one cannot describe in just a few paragraphs everything this amazing island has to offer, from charming little villages to neo-classic architecture of the main town, from the multitude of beaches with crystal waters to the fascinating archaeological sites & temples, and from the Greek gastronomical wonders to the oldest olive grove in Europe – with 500 year old olive trees.
